World Women's Championships Day 1 - Australia defeat Japan

Play commenced today at the 17th Women’s World Teams Squash Championships in Palmerston North, New Zealand, with the Australian team stamping their authority on day one, with a clear cut straight game defeat of Japan in their Pool B clash.

The playing order for today was 2-3-1, with Australian number 1 Rachael Grinham being rested.

Sarah Fitz-Gerald made her much anticipated return to international squash defeating Miwa Maekawa. Donna Urquhart followed defeating Yuki Sakai before Kasey Brown convincingly defeated Japan’s number one Misaki Kobayashi.

The 16 nation event comprises four pools, before elimination rounds commence later in the week.

Pool play continues on Tuesday 30th November when Australia will play India, with the final pool B match against Ireland to follow on Wednesday 1st December.
