I know I get a bit lazy with blogging, so you have to 'like' my facebook page under Kasey Brown to get instant updates on tournaments. I began the Hong Kong Open, playing Song Sun Mi of Korea in the first round who has had recent success in some tournaments in Australia. I played well to the ASB courts at the National Centre to win 11/7 11/2 11/2. These courts are tricky because if you hit the side wall, the ball stops dead and although dying in the back court, it is quite bouncy and slow, not great for one's short game. I played the last 16 against fellow AIS athlete, Donna Urquhart, who came out firing in the 1st game, and I lost the first 7/11. I was able to regroup and win the next 3, 11/7 11/2 11/6. In the quarter finals, I moved to the glass court, where I again came up against World Number 2, Jenny Duncalf. I hustled well in the 1st to save 2 game balls and win 12/10. I went back on court and had some issues with a bleeding leg and lost the 2nd 7/11. The 3rd was a close battle, and I made some bad decisions at the end to lose 9/11. The fourth I saved a match ball to win 13/11. In the 5th game, I was up 5/2, but Jenny fought back to get an 8/10 lead and won the match with a fluke. It was disappointing to lose such a close battle, but I can take both the positives and negatives from the match and work on that for my next tournament, The World Open held in Egypt in 3 weeks. xx |
